The Power of the Internet

In an earlier blog I talked about my learning curve this year. One of the main areas I have increased my learning and surprisingly become very intrigued by, is that of social media.

I was already active on LinkedIn in my professional life and Facebook in my private life but now I even have a Twitter account – @Zestfor and here I am blogging! I have joined discussion forums and been amazed at the amount of learning I have had from these – a “gathering” of hugely knowledgeable and experienced people I would never have “met” if it were not for the internet.

The power of the internet for building new relationships with people who I would never have met if the internet did not exist has blown me away. One of the biggest surprises is that I have found the whole social media phenomena strangely exhilarating! Please bear in mind that I am someone who loves meeting people and building relationships – face to face – so would have thought that sitting in front of a computer would be the last thing I would be finding exciting! How wrong I was! I have “met” so many interesting people and become close “friends” or “colleagues” and yet, still, I have not even met them – yet!

So, welcome to my virtual world too and I look forward to forging new and productive relationships with you!

What is your experience of the virtual world for increasing your learning?

I have been quite active on sites such as linkedIN for a while now and it has been an amazing tool for learning as well as networking and is also starting to turn into a fantastic sales and marketing tool in a way that suits me – i.e. through relationship building

Thank you for your comment Sonia. Yes, LinkedIn is an online resource that still alot of people I come across have still not discovered. One tip I would share with you all is to get a profile on LinkedIn now – whoever you are – and start networking because you never know when you might need that network. I have seen many people sit back on their laurels and not bother with it and then suddenly been in a position where they are realising they need a network and are scrabbling to put a profile together. so……if you have not done so already – get onto LinkedIn!!!

  3. Being a social media learner myself, I am pleased to “meet” you!
I am delighted to have the opportunity to be associated with you through our joint project on the Turning Points book.
