Have you flat lined?

I have had some interesting comments about your development. Some of you are feeling good about the amount of development you are receiving in your roles but some of you have realised that the learning curve has become somewhat flat.

  • How does this make you feel?
  • What are you going to do about it?

Now is a great time to start really thinking about your personal development. End of year reviews, if you have them, are always a good time to discuss your development with your manager and even if such processes do not exist within your organisation, here are some pointers for you to start that thought process………..

  1. Where do I want to go in my career?
  2. What are my strengths?
  3. What are my areas of development?
  4. What are the actions I need to take to fulfil these goals?

Have a go at answering these questions and look out for my next blog which will talk about how to find out what your strengths are.

And don’t get fobbed off with “we have no training budget”! Development can come in all sorts of ways – mentoring, shadowing, getting involved in projects that enable you to learn new skills and that stretch you… I could go on. What you need is to be “sponsored or supported” in some way to enable you to do this.
